The subject of the study is rail heritage tourism, its genesis and historical development in the area of the current Lesser Poland voivodship. The aim of this article is to determine the potential of rail heritage tourism in the Lesser Poland voivodship against the background of the development of the rail network in historical and current terms. The development of the most attractive tourist railways was analyzed and events and railway tours related to rail historical heritage were reviewed. The source material for the research were publications on the development of rail transport in the Lesser Poland voivodeship, websites devoted to railway events and archival train timetables. High potential for the development of rail tourism in the studied area was found resulting from natural conditions (landscape attractiveness of railway lines, in particular the Galician Transversal Railway), location of the Rolling Stock Open Air Museum, continuation of the Małopolska Railway Routes project implemented by the Board of the Małopolska Voivodeship in partnership with PKP (Polish National Railways) Cargo and Nowosądeckie Association of Railway Enthusiasts as well as stopping the process of liquidation of railway lines in Poland and huge interest in traveling on the historic railways.

Przedmiotem badań jest turystyka kolejowa, jej geneza i rozwój w ujęciu historycznym na obszarze obecnego województwa małopolskiego. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest określenie potencjału turystyki kolejowej w województwie małopolskim na tle rozwoju sieci kolejowej w ujęciu historycznym, jak i obecnie. Przeanalizowano rozwój najbardziej atrakcyjnych turystycznie linii kolejowych oraz dokonano przeglądu imprez i przejazdów związanych z kolejowym dziedzictwem historycznym. Materiałem źródłowym do badań były publikacje dotyczące rozwoju transportu kolejowego w województwie małopolskim, strony internetowe poświęcone imprezom kolejowym oraz archiwalne rozkłady jazdy pociągów. Stwierdzono wysoki potencjał rozwoju turystyki kolejowej na badanym obszarze wynikający z uwarunkowań naturalnych (atrakcyjność krajobrazowa linii kolejowych, zwłaszcza Galicyjskiej Kolei Transwersalnej), lokalizacji Skansenu Taboru Kolejowego, kontynuacji projektu Małopolskie Szlaki Turystyki Kolejowej realizowanego przez Zarząd Województwa Małopolskiego w partnerstwie z PKP Cargo i Nowosądeckim Stowarzyszeniem Miłośników Kolei oraz zahamowania procesu likwidacji linii kolejowych w Polsce i ogromnego zainteresowania przejazdami zabytkową koleją.

The subject of this paper is the issue of urban sprawling in the Kraków Metropolitan Area (Poland). Particular attention is paid on the changing role of industry as one of the key elements of development and metropolization of cities in post-socialist, emerging economies. The role of the industry in terms of activation of labor resources has been diminishing, which is connected to the automation of manufacturing processes and relocations of labor-intensive activities to regions with lower production costs. However, the industry, particularly hightech manufacturing, plays a significant role in stimulating research and development sector and generate innovations as a key component of the knowledge-based economy. The innovative industrial companies are one of the most important elements of the structure of metropolitan cities. The analysis of this process is based on data on employment and the operation of selected industrial companies, with particular emphasis on their shift from the city to the suburbs. The process of decentralization of high-order producer services, cultural services as well as advanced informational services is one of the most important features of modern urban areas and has been identified by many researchers.
