Maximal pseudocompact spaces and the Preiss-Simon property

100%
EN
We study maximal pseudocompact spaces calling them also MP-spaces. We show that the product of a maximal pseudocompact space and a countable compact space is maximal pseudocompact. If X is hereditarily maximal pseudocompact then X × Y is hereditarily maximal pseudocompact for any first countable compact space Y. It turns out that hereditary maximal pseudocompactness coincides with the Preiss-Simon property in countably compact spaces. In compact spaces, hereditary MP-property is invariant under continuous images while this is not true for the class of countably compact spaces. We prove that every Fréchet-Urysohn compact space is homeomorphic to a retract of a compact MP-space. We also give a ZFC example of a Fréchet-Urysohn compact space which is not maximal pseudocompact. Therefore maximal pseudocompactness is not preserved by continuous images in the class of compact spaces.

If is a family of filters over some set I, a topological space X is sequencewise -compact if for every I-indexed sequence of elements of X there is such that the sequence has an F-limit point. Countable compactness, sequential compactness, initial κ-compactness, [λ; µ]-compactness, the Menger and Rothberger properties can all be expressed in terms of sequencewise -compactness for appropriate choices of . We show that sequencewise -compactness is preserved under taking products if and only if there is a filter such that sequencewise -compactness is equivalent to F-compactness. If this is the case, and there exists a sequencewise -compact T 1 topological space with more than one point, then F is necessarily an ultrafilter. The particular case of sequential compactness is analyzed in detail.

We consider isometry groups of a fairly general class of non standard products of metric spaces. We present sufficient conditions under which the isometry group of a non standard product of metric spaces splits as a permutation group into direct or wreath product of isometry groups of some metric spaces.

Cardinal invariants of paratopological groups

We show that a regular totally ω-narrow paratopological group G has countable index of regularity, i.e., for every neighborhood U of the identity e of G, we can find a neighborhood V of e and a countable family of neighborhoods of e in G such that ∩W∈γ VW−1⊆ U. We prove that every regular (Hausdorff) totally !-narrow paratopological group is completely regular (functionally Hausdorff). We show that the index of regularity of a regular paratopological group is less than or equal to the weak Lindelöf number. We also prove that every Hausdorff paratopological group with countable π- character has a regular Gσ-diagonal.
