In the paper, an example of a closed set F of real numbers satisfying the conditions F + F = [0, 2] and F - F ≠ [-1, 1] is presented. It is a negative answer to the problem posed by M. Laczkovich. Also, some necessary condition for sets of this type is formulated.

W pracy przedstawiony został przykład zbioru domkniętego F liczb rzeczywistych spełniający warunki F + F = [0, 2] i F - F ≠ [-1, 1].
In this paper we shall give a definition of a symmetric Ι-approximate derivative of a function f: R → R. We shall prove several properties of its Ι-approximate derivative.

In this paper we shall give definitions of generalizations of the symmetric continuity of a function f: R → R. We shall prove several properties of these generalizations.

In this paper there are given two characterizations of singular normed measures. These theorems are used to study singular measures in the product of measurable normed spaces.

L. Zajiček, using the notion of porosity, defined superporosity, the porosity topology and the *-porosity topology. In our paper we introduce the equivalents of these notions which we get by replacing porosity with (x^α)-porosity and (x^α, c)-porosity. We examine relationships among the notions which we define in such a way for different α and c.

This paper deals with the convergence of multi-index sequences of Baire functions with respect to category bases. It is a generalization of some theorems concerning the convergence of double measurable sequences of real functions, presented in [2]. The abstract generalizations in category bases possess the most natural application in the case of measure and category.

The present paper presents the results of the investigations carried out among the students of mathematics of Łódź University, concerning individual techniques of reading and analysing a mathematical text. These results point out that young people taking up their studies do not bring away from the secondary school any skill in reading a scientific text. It is only in the course of the studies that they labour their own methods of work. The techniques of work of students of higher years and very good students are considerably closer to the model techniques presented in the paper. Some of the failures in the learning of students of lower years result from the ignorance of effective ways of learning. It is therefore worth while for the academic teachers to devote already during the first years of studies, more attention to acquainting their students with the methods of working on a mathematical text and to bring them into the arcana of the effective studying.
