Let Ai ∈ B(H), (i = 1, 2, ..., n), and [...] T=[ 0 ⋯ 0 A 1 ⋮ ⋰ A 2 0 0 ⋰ ⋰ ⋮ A n 0 ⋯ 0 ] $ T = \left[ {\matrix{ 0 & \cdots & 0 & {A_1 } \cr \vdots & {\mathinner{\mkern2mu\raise1pt\hbox{.}\mkern2mu \raise4pt\hbox{.}\mkern2mu\raise7pt\hbox{.}\mkern1mu}} & {A_2 } & 0 \cr 0 & {\mathinner{\mkern2mu\raise1pt\hbox{.}\mkern2mu \raise4pt\hbox{.}\mkern2mu\raise7pt\hbox{.}\mkern1mu}} & {\mathinner{\mkern2mu\raise1pt\hbox{.}\mkern2mu \raise4pt\hbox{.}\mkern2mu\raise7pt\hbox{.}\mkern1mu}} & \vdots \cr {A_n } & 0 & \cdots & 0 \cr } } \right] $ . In this paper, we present some upper bounds and lower bounds for w(T). At the end of this paper we drive a new bound for the zeros of polynomials.

Let T be a self-adjoint tridiagonal operator in a Hilbert space H with the orthonormal basis {e n}n=1∞, σ(T) be the spectrum of T and Λ(T) be the set of all the limit points of eigenvalues of the truncated operator T N. We give sufficient conditions such that the spectrum of T is discrete and σ(T) = Λ(T) and we connect this problem with an old problem in analysis.

We consider the infinite Jacobi block matrices in the completely indeterminate case, i. e. such that the deficiency indices of the corresponding Jacobi operators are maximal. For such matrices, some criteria of complete indeterminacy are established. These criteria are similar to several known criteria of indeterminacy of the Hamburger moment problem in terms of the corresponding scalar Jacobi matrices and the related systems of orthogonal polynomials.

Let Ω= [a, b] × [c, d] and T 1, T 2 be partial integral operators in $$ C $$(Ω): (T 1 f)(x, y) = $$ \mathop \smallint \limits_a^b $$ k 1(x, s, y)f(s, y)ds, (T 2 f)(x, y) = $$ \mathop \smallint \limits_c^d $$ k 2(x, ts, y)f(t, y)dt where k 1 and k 2 are continuous functions on [a, b] × Ω and Ω × [c, d], respectively. In this paper, concepts of determinants and minors of operators E−τT 1, τ ∈ ℂ and E−τT 2, τ ∈ ℂ are introduced as continuous functions on [a, b] and [c, d], respectively. Here E is the identical operator in C(Ω). In addition, Theorems on the spectra of bounded operators T 1, T 2, and T = T 1 + T 2 are proved.

We consider an infinite Jacobi matrix with off-diagonal entries dominated by the diagonal entries going to infinity. The corresponding self-adjoint operator J has discrete spectrum and our purpose is to present results on the approximation of eigenvalues of J by eigenvalues of its finite submatrices.

We study several aspects of a generalized Perron-Frobenius and Krein-Rutman theorems concerning spectral properties of a (possibly unbounded) linear operator on a cone in a Banach space. The operator is subject to the so-called tangency or weak range assumptions implying the resolvent invariance of the cone. The further assumptions rely on relations between the spectral and essential spectral bounds of the operator. In general we do not assume that the cone induces the Banach lattice structure into the underlying space.
