General information
Journal description
The aim of the journal Matematyka Stosowana is to publish scientific papers presenting results with particular emphasis on works of a review and inspiring, promoting mathematics as the science supporting both research and other human activities. Filed identify the divisions listed on the composition of the editorial board. The scope of the journal is not limited only to those topics.
The journal was founded by the Polish Mathematical Society in 1973 as the series iii of Annales Societatis Mathematicae Polonae (ISSN 0137-2890). In 1999 the founder decided to change the profile and emphasis that by changing its name to Matematyka Stosowana-Matematyka dla Społeczeństwa (ISSN 1730-2668). The electronic journal Mathematica Applicanda continues the profiles of the former issues. The editorial board encourages the contributors to prepare the articles in English with extensive abstracts in Polish. The details of the contribution process can be found on the bookmark About/Online submission.

Polish Mathematical Society as the publisher of the journal understands that the publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal constitutes an essential contributor to the development of knowledge. It also reflects the quality of work of the authors and the institutions they represent. Peer-reviewed articles support and embody the scientific method. Thus, there is an urgent need to set the standards of expected ethical behavior of all parties involved in the process of publishing: the author, the editor, the reviewer, the publisher, and the society concentrated around scientific journals.
Based on the guidelines developed by the Publication Ethics Committee (COPE) and available at www.publicationethics.org, and taking into account the rules of the EMS policy regarding conflicts of interest adopted by the Publisher of the Polish Mathematical Society , progress principles was developed regarding publishing ethics and rules of conduct to malpractices in the publishing process of the journal "Mathematica Applicanda. Annales Societatis Mathematicae Polonae Series III".
It is the Journal's consistent policy to improve the journal constantly through publishing the highest quality original scientific articles using a fair and ethical selection and peer-reviewing of submitted manuscripts.

Peer Review Process
Annales Societatis Mathematicae Polonae, Series III, Mathematica Applicanda is the peer review journal. The reviewing process is applied to ensure that good science is published. Our referees play a vital role in maintaining the high standards of MA. All manuscripts or review papers and expository papers are peer reviewed following the procedure outlined below. Our journal takes the system where the authors can choose the editor suitable for the reviewing process of their papers during the submission process or in the separate letter to the editor. Therefore, choose one of the editors from the Editorial Team and write his/her name on the separate letter to the editor. It is not enough to choose the section when the section has more than one sectional editor.
Initial manuscript evaluation The Editor first evaluates all manuscripts. Those rejected at this stage are insufficiently original, have serious scientific flaws, have poor grammar or English language, or are outside the aims and scope of the MA journal. Those that meet the minimum criteria are passed on to at least 2 experts for review. These may include members of the Editorial Board. Authors of manuscripts rejected at this stage are usually informed within 2-3 weeks of receipt.
Type of peer review This journal employs single blind reviewing, where the referees remain anonymous to authors throughout the process. Authors, however, are not anonymous to reviewers.
Selection of the reviewers. Referees are matched to papers according to their expertise. Our list is constantly being updated. We welcome suggestions for referees from the author(s) though these recommendations may or may not be used.
Referee reports Referees are asked to evaluate whether the manuscript:
- is original
- is methodologically sound
- follows appropriate ethical guidelines
- has results which are clearly presented and support the conclusions
- correctly references previous relevant work
- has appropriate abstract, keywords and subject classification.
Referees are not expected to correct or copy edit manuscripts. Language correction is not part of the peer review process.
How long does the review process take? The invitation of the reviewer asks to review of the paper within 6 weeks. Typically manuscripts are reviewed within 1-2 months of submission. Essentially longer review times are not uncommon, especially for papers on esoteric topics where finding qualified referees can itself take months. Revised manuscripts are usually returned to the initial referees upon receipt. Referees may and frequently do request more than one revision of a manuscript.
Final report A final decision to accept or reject the manuscript is sent to the author along with any recommendations made by the referees, and usually included verbatim comments by the referees. The decision could be:
- Accept submission
- Revision required
- Resubmit for revision
- Decline submission
Editor's decision is final Referees advise the Editor, who is responsible for the final decision to accept or reject the article.
